ฝีอักเสบเป็นภาวะที่เกิดขึ้นเมื่อมีการสะสมของหนอง ภาวะนี้สามารถเกิดขึ้นได้ในทุกส่วนของร่างกาย รวมถึงผิวหนัง เหงือก และอวัยวะภายใน ในกรณีส่วนใหญ่ ฝีที่อักเสบจะทำให้เกิดอาการบวม แดง ปวด และรู้สึกอุ่นในบริเวณที่เป็น หากปล่อยทิ้งไว้โดยไม่ได้รับการรักษาอาจนำไปสู่โรคแทรกซ้อนร้ายแรงและอาจเป็นอันตรายถึงชีวิตได้
สาเหตุหลักของฝีอักเสบคือการติดเชื้อแบคทีเรีย แบคทีเรีย เช่น Staphylococcus aureus หรือ Streptococcus pyogenes สามารถเข้าสู่ร่างกายผ่านทางบาดแผลหรือแตกในผิวหนังและทำให้เกิดฝีได้ ปัจจัยเสี่ยงอื่นๆ ที่ทำให้เกิดฝีอักเสบ ได้แก่ สุขอนามัยที่ไม่ดี ระบบภูมิคุ้มกันอ่อนแอ การเจ็บป่วยเรื้อรัง และการใช้ยาบางชนิด
อาการของฝีอักเสบมักเริ่มต้นจากการมีตุ่มหรือก้อนเล็กๆ บริเวณที่เกิดการติดเชื้อ ตุ่มอาจค่อยๆ เพิ่มขนาดและมีหนองเต็ม ขณะที่การติดเชื้อดำเนินไป ผิวหนังโดยรอบอาจมีสีแดง บวม และอ่อนโยนเมื่อสัมผัส ในบางกรณีผู้ป่วยอาจมีไข้ หนาวสั่น และเหนื่อยล้าร่วมด้วย
หากสงสัยว่ามีฝีอักเสบ สิ่งสำคัญคือต้องไปพบแพทย์ทันที แพทย์จะทำการตรวจร่างกายและอาจสั่งการตรวจวินิจฉัย เช่น การตรวจเลือดหรือการศึกษาภาพเพื่อยืนยันการวินิจฉัย การรักษาฝีที่อักเสบมักเกี่ยวข้องกับการระบายหนองออกจากบริเวณที่ติดเชื้อ และการให้ยาปฏิชีวนะเพื่อฆ่าเชื้อแบคทีเรียที่ทำให้เกิดการติดเชื้อ
หลังจากระบายฝีแล้ว แพทย์จะทำความสะอาดบริเวณนั้นให้สะอาดและผ้าปิดแผลที่ปราศจากเชื้อ อาจได้รับยาปฏิชีวนะซึ่งกินเวลาหลายวันเพื่อให้แน่ใจว่าแบคทีเรียทั้งหมดถูกกำจัดออกจากร่างกายแล้ว สิ่งสำคัญคือต้องรับประทานยาปฏิชีวนะให้ครบตามที่แพทย์สั่ง แม้ว่าจะเริ่มรู้สึกดีขึ้นหลังจากผ่านไป 2-3 วันก็ตาม
ในบางกรณี ฝีที่อักเสบอาจไม่ตอบสนองต่อยาปฏิชีวนะหรือเป็นซ้ำแม้จะได้รับการรักษาแล้วก็ตาม ในสถานการณ์เช่นนี้ แพทย์อาจแนะนำขั้นตอนเพิ่มเติม เช่น การกรีดและการระบายน้ำหรือการผ่าตัดเอาฝีออก ขั้นตอนเหล่านี้ทำในโรงพยาบาลและต้องใช้เวลาในการฟื้นตัวมากกว่าการผ่าตัดแบบธรรมดาและการระบายน้ำ
การป้องกันฝีที่อักเสบสามารถทำได้โดยการรักษาสุขอนามัยที่ดีและดูแลบาดแผลหรือบาดแผลทันที ล้างมือบ่อยๆ ด้วยสบู่และน้ำ โดยเฉพาะก่อนหยิบจับอาหารหรือสัมผัสใบหน้า หลีกเลี่ยงการใช้สิ่งของส่วนตัว เช่น ผ้าเช็ดตัวและมีดโกนร่วมกับผู้อื่น หากมีบาดแผลให้ทำความสะอาดด้วยสบู่และน้ำให้สะอาด ทาครีมฆ่าเชื้อ แล้วปิดด้วยผ้าพันแผล เมื่อมีฝี *ควรพบแพทย์เพื่อวินิจฉัย และรักษาทางการแพทย์เป็นสิ่งสำคัญ
